O.C.G.A. § 32-6-6 — Camping on roadways; penalty
(Justia / GA Code):
“Camping” includes tents or other shelters, bedding laid outdoors,
storing personal belongings outdoors, making a fire, or cooking.
Using any portion of a state-highway road or any property owned by
the department for camping is unlawful (misdemeanor).
§ 32-6-6(c) temporary-use carve-out:
Nothing in the section prohibits the
normal, customary, and temporary use of safety rest
areas, welcome centers, tourist centers, and other designated
department / state-highway property for resting, sleeping, eating,
or other similar activities by persons traveling by vehicle.
Sleeping in a vehicle for temporary rest is written into that
carve-out — there is still no statewide hour figure
like Texas 24 hours or Nebraska 10 hours on this check.
