When overnight reserved vs monthly yard makes sense
Overnight reserved / daily paid lot: You need one
night (or a few) near a pickup, delivery, or HOS break. You want a
gate, cameras, or a shower. You do not want a month commitment. You
are willing to pay a higher per-night price for certainty that
night.
Weekly yard plan: You will sit in the same metro
for several nights but not a full month. Some Dallas yards post
weekly rates that undercut stacking daily rates.
Monthly yard: You or your fleet regularly stage a
tractor, trailer, or combo in one metro. You need an assigned or
reserved space for drop-and-hook, bobtail parking, or personal
vehicle storage. Per-night math usually favors monthly once you
are in the yard most nights of the month.
Free first-come truck-stop spots: Still common,
but they fill early on busy corridors. They are not priced below
because they are not a posted paid product. Do not plan a tight
appointment around an unreserved free spot.
State rest area (when rules allow): Can cover a
legal sleeper break at $0 when the DOT publishes a stay long enough
and signs allow trucks — but capacity, overnight bans, and hour
caps vary by state. Prefer a published private lot when the state
restricts overnight or when you need showers / reserved space.

Cost math starts at $0 only when a legal free option exists. State
DOTs set rest-area overnight policy — there is no national rule.

Contrast: Virginia VDOT FAQ and 24VAC30-51-30 state overnight parking
is not allowed at safety rest areas and welcome centers; California
caps SRRAs at 8 hours; Nebraska NDOT prohibits overnight with a

Reserve-It
TA describes Reserve-It as advance booking with a guaranteed
space and no additional gate fee during the reserved period. A
single nationwide Reserve-It dollar amount is not posted on that
page — check the app, site, or fuel desk for the location you
need.

(examples: TA Reserve-It, Pilot/Flying J reserved programs, Love’s
reserved parking). On this check we did
not find a single public page that states one fixed
national overnight price for Pilot or Love’s reserved parking. TA’s
gated-parking page posts a $25 parking fee for
standard gated locations (including Dallas South) when you do not
meet a fuel, purchase, or Reserve-It validation — that is not the
same as publishing every Reserve-It overnight quote.

research on expanding truck parking at public rest areas states it
is estimated there is just one truck parking space nationally for
every 11 truck drivers. That is capacity context, not a rate card —
