Secure truck parking: gated yards vs truck stops

A planning comparison for drivers and dispatchers choosing between a paid gated yard and a chain truck stop. Every security detail below is what the operator posts — gated, cameras, staffed, price — copied from Lot List city and corridor pages. No theft figures, no ratings, no live occupancy.

Guide last checked 17 Oct 2026. Planning directory — not live occupancy, not booking. Call the operator before you route.

Quick answers: gated yard or truck stop?

  • Gated yard (for example Safe Truck Parking): paid daily or monthly, operator posts a fenced perimeter and “secure access”, often cameras and staff. No fuel, food or showers published. Posted $15–$35 a day, checked 17 Oct 2026.
  • Truck stop (Love’s, Pilot Flying J, TA/Petro): operator posts overnight parking and a truck-space count; paid reserved spots through Reserve-It or Prime Parking. Fuel, food and showers are listed on many locator pages. Gate and camera details are not on the locator pages Lot List cites.
  • Gated tables by city: Houston · Chicago · Orlando.
  • Occupancy unknown everywhere. Not booking, not a security rating.

Call-ahead checklist

  1. Open the operator page linked from the Lot List section and confirm today’s price.
  2. Ask what “secure access” means: gate code, attendant, or app entry.
  3. Ask whether sleeping in the cab is allowed and whether restrooms are open after hours.
  4. Reserve through the operator; Lot List does not book.

Secure truck parking FAQ

Is a gated truck yard the same as secure truck parking?

Not automatically. Lot List only repeats what the operator posts. Every Safe Truck Parking location page checked 17 Oct 2026 lists a fenced perimeter and “secure access”; most also list cameras, and some list staff. Lot List does not inspect lots, rate security, or publish theft or incident numbers. Call the operator and ask what “secure” covers at that yard.

Do truck stops post gate, camera or staffing details?

The chain locator pages Lot List cites for truck-stop cards publish overnight parking, truck-space counts and paid reserved-parking programs (for example Reserve-It at TA/Petro and Prime Parking at Pilot Flying J). Lot List truck-stop cards do not record fences, gates or cameras, so treat those as unknown and ask the location.

What does gated truck parking cost?

Safe Truck Parking posted $15 to $35 per day and $125 to $750 per month across the 13 yards Lot List lists, checked 17 Oct 2026 — Hammond, IN is lowest daily ($15); Hallandale Beach, FL is highest ($35 daily, $550–$750 monthly). Truck stops are usually free for overnight unless you pay for a reserved spot. Prices change; confirm on the operator page.

Can I sleep in my cab at a gated yard?

Safe Truck Parking pages sell daily and monthly parking but do not separately publish in-cab overnight sleeping rules, restrooms are listed at some yards and not others, and no fuel or food is published. Ask the operator before planning a 10-hour break there. Truck stops whose operator lists overnight parking are marked Overnight yes on Lot List cards.

Does Lot List show how full a gated yard is or let me book?

No. Lot List is a planning directory, not a booking service or live occupancy board. Occupancy is unknown. Reserve through the operator’s own site or app.
