Which interstate rest areas are closed right now?

As of 20 Oct 2026, Lot List lists 36 closed rest areas, welcome centers or public truck parking areas on 17 interstates, each from a state DOT or toll-road notice with the date Lot List checked it (between 30 Sep and 20 Oct 2026). Examples: Schodack westbound on I-90 in New York (NYSDOT, re-checked 20 Oct 2026), Onawa northbound on I-29 in Iowa (until mid-December 2026), the Lake Marion northbound rest area on I-95 in South Carolina (scheduled to reopen in 2030) and the Indiana Toll Road Exit 72 truck lot (through 20 Nov 2026). Can I park in a closed rest area overnight?

No. When a DOT lists a rest area or truck parking area as closed, plan as if those spaces do not exist, even if the DOT amenity list still shows a truck-space count (NYSDOT Schodack still lists 12 truck spaces while closed). Use a private lot listed on the matching Lot List corridor page and follow posted signs.

Are permanently closed rest areas on this list?

Yes, when a DOT says so: INDOT lists Wolcott on I-65 as permanently closed (November 2023), MDOT permanently closed Belleville westbound on I-94 effective 22 Jun 2026, and MnDOT lists Lake Iverson eastbound on I-94 as permanently closed.

Does Lot List show live rest-area status?
